Dr. Eric Brown named to Karmanos breast cancer leadership team

Dr. Eric Brown - Comprehensive Breast CareEric Brown, MD, FACS, breast surgeon with Comprehensive Breast Care, recently accepted a position with Karmanos Cancer Institute as co-leader of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team.

Dr. Brown will continue to see his patients as usual at Comprehensive Breast Care. 

As co-leader of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, Dr. Brown will assist administration in developing regional strategies for breast surgical oncology physician recruitment and develop programs to integrate services within the Karmanos Cancer Network. He will collaborate with physicians and surgeons to produce high-quality breast surgical oncology services and enhance the quality of patient care delivered by the team while promoting excellence in clinical research.

In addition to his new role with Karmanos, Dr. Brown serves as an assistant professor of Surgery at Oakland University’s William Beaumont School of Medicine. He is the Breast Program Lead for Michigan Healthcare Professionals, a physician group of approximately 30 physicians who practice throughout southeast Michigan. In this role, he dedicates his time to improving patient access to care and increasing patient access to clinical trials. 

Dr. Brown is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons where he serves on many committees.

He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School. Dr. Brown completed a general surgery residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. He is board certified in general surgery and certified in breast ultrasound. He held two leadership roles at Beaumont Hospital Troy (Director of Oncology Services and Director of the Center for Breast Health). He also serves as Director of Outpatient Cancer Surgery at McLaren Hospital – Oakland.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Brown is actively involved in research as the Co-Principal Investigator of the Beaumont Institute Clinical Oncology Research Program. 

Dr. Brown has been caring for breast patients for more than 20 years. He has been voted Hour Magazine’s “Top Doc” in Metro Detroit for the past 10 consecutive years. Newsweek Magazine selected him Top Cancer Doctor for Breast Surgery in 2015. Dr. Brown has been published dozens of times for his research in breast cancer.
